Chief--

I was browsing through this site and came upon your listing. While I never knew you personally (you passed about 4 years before my birth), I feel that I did know you to some degree.

You see, I grew up across the street on N. Breckenridge Ave right where your wife lived. "Mrs. Jackson" is all I ever knew her by, and when Dad would take me to the PD/FD on Sundays to "play around" on the fire trucks, I remember vividly visiting & talking to "Mrs. Jackson", who was dispatching.

I know I have said a lot, and nothing at all on this. God had a greater plan for you, Chief, and you were chosen by Him. Please look down upon all of us who are following in your footsteps, and keep us safe in your caring arms.

Thank you for your time and service, Sir.

John Ollie Jackson was my grandfather, and I remember him well from when I was a boy. He was twice elected Sheriff of Stevens County, TX and twice appointed as Chief of Police in Breckenridge, TX. He was killed in the line of duty. He enjoyed personally assisting school children crossing a busy intersection in town, and on Friday, May 7, 1954 he was struck and killed by a drunk driver. He managed to usher the children out of the path of the vehicle before being struck. Ollie was a big, jovial man - over 6'3" tall - and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. I remember his infectious laugh that whistled deep in his throat, and his big smile that revealed a gold tooth in the back of his mouth.
