I really don't know what to say, I am just going to write this letter to my father. Dad, I was only three when you were taken away, and all I can remeber is that my life had changed. I wish you were here, maybe I would know some things that I still don't know to this day, like throw a football or how to shoot a basketball. Don't worry pops, I was a good kid growing up, even though I didn't know how to play sports. I grabbed a job at an early age, to keep me out of trouble and to help out around the house. My grades in school were ok, I was too busy chasing girls (my bad pops), but I did make it to college and graduated. It was hard trying to learn how to be a man without his father there, but I made it through, your wife was tuff and she still is to this day. My mom, never remarried and she never will, because she is still in love with you. Mom is doing great, she is the backbone of the whole family, and she does alot of traveling, and I guess I am the man of her life.. Me, I am 30 years old now, I guess since I never knew how to play sports and I worked to stay out of much trouble as possible, I just kept working. I did elevator construction for 5 years, as well as being the Sound Engineer for the Orlando Magic (Im at work right now writing you), I just got hired on to become a Freight Train Conductor in Upstate New York, I will be leaving Florida in about a month or so. One more surprise pops, I had a daughter, her name is Makayla Jenise Irizarry, she is three and looks just like us. I wish you can see her and vice versa, I showed her your picture, but she is starting to understand a little bit who you are, but wonders why are you stuck in a computer. Well pops, I have to get back to work, but I love you and miss you. P.S. tell Grandma, since I am going to be in New York, I will stay out of trouble and when I get a couple days off, I will venture to Brooklyn and finish the upgrades that she started. Oh yeah tell Uncle Clarence, nephew said whats up and that I love him.. I will contact you, to keep you updated my where abouts and whats going on with me and Makayla....

Love you

I woke up this morning thinking again about my friend better known as "Buster" growing up in the Marcy Projects, Brooklyn, NY. I did not get a chance to say goodbye. Nevertheless, I hope to see him again. Buster and I had wonderful times.

May God richly bless his family.

When I was in the OPD academy, Officer Irizarry was shot. It was the most solemn and intense period of our training. We were doing PT on the streets behind the department, and had to pass by his patrol vehicle, which had been taped off in the yard. He was the center of our universe, and none of us will ever forget that time, or his contribution to our department.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 26th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Two days a memorial was held for your four brothers from Oakland. Our community is mourning their loss that happened on the darkest day in OPD history.

Rest In Peace.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

You'll Never Walk Alone

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart and you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.
