The ultimate sacrifice anyone can give in the performance of their duty is what you went through Officer Hughes. I salute you. You showed courage in the sight of danger, yet, still performed your duty. I light a prayer candle in your memory. Continue to rest in eternal peace.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 54th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace,.

Officer Hughes,

Yesterday I stopped at the old "Workhouse" on a training ride for Law Enforcement United. We paused for a moment in your memory and the memory of Officer Michael Kirby who also was killed in the line of duty at Lorton.

Your memories will never be forgotten.

To the Hughes Family,

On this 50th anniversary of Officer Hughes sacrifice, I wanted to say that my dad, retired Sgt. Granville B. Brill
(DC Department of Corrections) started working at Lorton
Reformatory on the same day as Officer Hughes. He was working the day he died and he never really got over it. He often spoke highly of Mr. Hughes and their friendship.
My dad is now gone too-I hope they are both at peace and
free from worry. God Bless.

Michael,
I never knew you, but over the years I worked on "the Hill" I heard your name mention on numerous occasions, and there was a plaque on the Assembly Room wall in your honor. I feel as if I knew you over the years. You served the citizens of D.C. and gave them your all. It is a honor to have walked the hallowed grounds that you walked. Rest in Peace my fellow officer!
