Reflections for Officer Elston Morris Howard

I received a call for shooting that night. Only to walk in and find Officer Howard down. It wasn’t until then we knew it was an Officer involved shooting. Good guy. Still think about that night this many years later. Rest My fellow Officer!

He rode with me once when he was a rookie. 16 district nights (the old 16 district) out of Central. I ran into him a few years later coming out of 33 Artesian as he was coming in. Told me he was transferring to Vice. He was happy, big smile on his face. Did not know him well, but seemed like a nice young guy. A horrible tragedy under bizarre circumstances.

Officer Howard,

Thank you for your bravery and your service. Your killer was executed tonight. The media talked alot about him but I wanted to know more about you and so I found this page. So many comments here talk about what a great person you were. I hope tonight brought closure and peace to your family. R.I.P Officer Howard.

Knowing that you never got the chance to meet sweet Margeaux or baby #2 makes me hurt inside. But I have faith that one day we will all be reunited in the Kingdom of the Lord, and you will love your grandchildren as much as they will grow up loving you.

I had a few occasions when I worked with Elston Howard and found him to be a man of integrity and honor. He always wore a smile when conversing and was very good at what he did. Principally, he worked narcotics and was on loan to the Vice Division at the time of his death. I was proud to have known him.

Officer Howard, you left this earth the day I entered it. But for a little while we existed at the same time. I don't know what brought me to your page, except that your EOW is my date of birth, but thank you for your sacrifice.

Your family and friends have posted here and may God bless them and may he help them enshrine your memory.
