Your heroism and service is honored today, the 22nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections. Your selflessness that day was amazing.

Rest In Peace.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

It has been almost 18 years ago, that you gave your life to protect others. That is what hero's are made of. You are not forgotten brother. Rest in Peace.

I was a member of "The Last patrol (Colorado Division) and was in Colorado when this occurred. What I heard the following day was that he was providing escort/road security for a walk for POWs, The Last Patrol (Texas Chapter)led by Reuben "Sugarbear" Johnson (a Viet Vet double amputee)

Deputy McFarland noticed an 18 wheeler bearing down on the walkers, apparently out of control or with a driver asleep at the wheel. He deliberately placed his patrol vehicle between the truck and the walkers, taking the full brunt of the crash and sacrificing his life. Even so, his car was pushed into a number of the scattering walkers, injuring a nimber of them. However, none of the walkers were killed.

Earl was one of the most honorable men in this profession that I have ever had the priviledge of ever working with. He was dedicated to his family, and looking forward to the birth of his new baby at the time he was taken from us. Thank you Earl for the inspiration you gave a this young lawman way back when. I know now that your not alone up there anymore because some of the old group is up there with you now patrolling.

This is a perfect example of how something seemingly simple can become tragic. No one could have predicted that your life would be taken that day... Your selfless service and duty will not go unrecognized.

Earl McFarland..... I was fortunate to know Earl thru work, as well as thru mutual friends, his wife and I grew up together.....I could just go on and on. I am truly at a loss for words...but I want to say something as a tribute to him. I would have written something on here a long time ago if I had know this even exsisted. Earl is greatly missed and loved by many. His prescious children now are dealing with loosing their Mother thru mruder as well. I ask everyone who might read this to pray for this family.

With memorial day approaching I always think of Earl. I was very lucky to have known him and I know that he is still watching over everyone and keeping his family safe. He is missed very much he was a wonderful officer and friend!
He gave his life to save the veterans he was escorting, but that was him. The ironic thing was the name of the march was " The last patrol"
He may be gone, but never forgotten.
God Bless!
