Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer Michael Tarone Hester

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the family, coworkers, and friends of Officer Hester. Many of our brothers and sisters are gone, but none are ever forgotten. May you rest in peace. Then I heaard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? and Who will go for us? And I said "Here I am. Send Me!" ISAIH 6:8

To those I Love and Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, Let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled alone.

So grieve a while for if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart,

I won't be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen with your heart, you'll
Hear all of my love around you soft and clear

And when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and say,
"Welcome Home"

Mike I went to school with you then worked with you at Barrow County S.O. We hated your leaving to go to Lilburn but understood. Sorry it took so long to give my comments but the longer I am in the profession the more I see that makes me understand why giving my thoughts is so important. You are missed and thought of often. You were a good officer and your loss has been felt. Rest in peace.

Although this message comes ten years later, I would like to extend my family's deepest sympathy. A man who gave his life to protect those who can't shall have crowns of plenty in his heavenly crown. And it is rejuvenating to know that to this day his legacy and memory still travels with those of us who knew and patrolled with Mike Hester. God bless you and your family. You will never be forgotten

I had the great pleasure of working with Mike in the projects of Winder. Mike always called on me because I could chase them down. Mike left looking for better insurance and more money. He found it at Lilburn. He told me it was a great place to work. I had gotten off work that morning and went straight to bed as normal. My wife came and work me when she heard an officer was shot at Lilburn. I called a friend and found out it was Mike. As anyone we never want to hear a officer had been killed, even worse when he is a great friend looking to better his life. I still to this day go by Mike's resting place and visit when I come to GA. I am still in law enforcement and train new recruits. Mike's picture still hangs in my locker at work and is always unlocked for all to see the great man, friend and marine. I think of you always and know you are there.

Each day I try to read the ODMP. Today I read your story. Any officer who dies in the line of duty will always be remembered for his sacrifice. You died a hero. Rest in peace Officer Heter.

I am a 14 year veteran, I have been employed with the City of Lilburn for 1 year. From the first day I arrived the officers and staff of the Police Department have told the story of Officer Hesters death. The officers and staff of the police department have not, and will not never forget Mike Hester. The Chief honors Mike every year by placing a wreath on his gravesite.

I have been, and continue to be impressed with the fact that while Officer Hester is gone he will never be forgotten.

I have lived in Georgia all my life and I don't remember hearing this incident. In 1994 I was a senior in high school and a totally different person than I am. Although I knew that officers put their lives on the line on a dialy basis I didn't pay attention enough to know that officers were being killed here in Georgia. Officer Hester sacrificed his life serving this state...and his sacrifice will never be forgotten. God bless his family and friends...may they keep each other strong and support each other during this holiday season when they will surely be feeling their loss when that one chair sits empty. Rest in peace Officer Hester...rest in peace.
