Reflections for Police Officer Christy Lynne Brondell-Hamilton

I remember the day this happened. It is as fresh in my mind today as it was then. Christy, we have not forgotten you. You live in our hearts forever. To your family, friends and fellow officers, I hope that the time that has passed has dulled the pain. I know you miss her..........

To the Hamilton family:

I am thinking about all of you today and saying special prayers for your family.

In reading the reflections about Christy, it is obvious she was cared for and respected by many people whose lives she touched. I am so saddened to learn of her brutal murder. My son was also ambushed and shot twice, the fatal shot being in his neck during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers.

I am lighting two blue candles today for Jim McDonald and Kevin Burrell, and a third one for Officer Hamilton. Their memory is revered today and they are loved and cherished.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Hamilton gave to her community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice she and her family made on February 22, 1994.

Rest In Peace, Christy.

Dear Aunt Christy,
I can't believe that 12 years have passed since I last saw your beautiful smile or heard your contaigious laugh. On this day in particular, I look back and remember with such gratitude the amazing influence you were on my life. You were and always will be my hero. Thank you for continuing to watch over us, and thank you for allowing me to continue to feel your presence in my life. 12 years ago today our relationship changed, but it did not end. I love you!
To all of your academy classmates who continue to think of you and pray for our family, thank you. My aunt is with you always.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Officer Hamilton, uncommon valor was a common virtue for you.
You did make a difference, you are missed and you will not be forgotten.

I am a patrol supervisor at Radford City Police Department. Each night we dedicate the watch to a fallen brother or sister. Today we are dedicating the watch to Officer Christy Lynn Hamilton who was killed in the line of duty 10 years ago today. Officer Hamilton your sacrifice will never be forgotten. Today we honor your legacy.

Christy, it is hard to believe that 10 years have gone by since our graduation. I must admit that as life goes on with my family and friends, you always seem to enter my mind when the month of February rolls around. I miss you and I pray that your family can be comforted by knowing you were doing something you loved. I miss you dearly.

Love Always,

Douglas
