Uncle Joe In times like we have today I just found myself looking for you again. I need someone to understand the pain I see as the country has found itself in so much turmoil. The respect for law enforcement is at it’s worse, right down to the fact that their lives are in serious danger! You know recently the mayor of New York City was describing a conversation he had with his biracial sons. Stop when the police yell stop, be respectful and few other things. I was surprised because the advice he was giving to his sons was the same, the exact same advice my mom gave me. She added how hard the job was as they never knew which way things would go and needed our cooperation while they did their job. I don’t understand why people don’t realize these words should be taught to everyone.

Uncle Joe, sadly police officers are still loosing their lives and I think of you often every time I hear of another lost soul. You were my mom's hero and apparently the hero to many others. My mom taught me to respect police officers and your death taught the risk you all take. I wish I could have known you.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 56th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Uncle Joe is an icon in our family. He is larger than life and as each generation hears the stories of his life and days on the force, pride and respect continue to grow. His siblings have all joined him but their stories and adoration will forever be reflected in our actions and respect for the Officers of the law.

i m not sure if we are related. the last name , haydu is not a common name. i was police office in columbus ohio and retired in 1990. my last assignment was in the robbery squad. i really don t know much about my fathers side of the family due to a rift that developed before i was born. my god bless you. rest in peace. jim haydu columbus ohio plice, retired.

Uncle Joe, I remember and knew you through my Mom, who spoke of you with great love and affection. Your story always taught to be respectful of police officers and how much they risk everyday. You were a hero in my family and god bless your surviving family.

I met your great-grandson while traveling out of town recently. Once he discovered that I was from Cleveland he began to tell me a few stories about you. He seemed very proud and spoke very highly of you. This just shows that your service and sacrafice is never trully forgotten. Rest in peace.

Patrolman Haydu was my great-grandfather's brother. Pap-Pap used to tell me stories about his brother's bravery protecting the streets he loved so much. I wish I could have known him.
