To Captain Michael Wayne Tracy, his children and other loved ones, and his fellow officers with the Mobile Police Department:

On this the fifteeth anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart is with all family members and friends who call you beloved. They are all in my thoughts and prayers today. Your daughter misses you so much, and she especially is in my heart's embrace.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Michael. I am so humbled by your valor and service.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Michael gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 14, 1994.

Dear Captain Tracy,

My fiance, Dave Blitz worked with you at Palos Verdes Estates Police Department and I grew up in the South Bay and remember that horrible event. To this day those that lived in the area are still impacted by your loss. You were so heroic in your actions. Dave often speaks about you and has such nice memories of his time working with you. I always think of you and Sergeant Vanderpool whenever I walk by your memorial plaque outside the front of the station and will visit that memorial this Saturday on the anniversary of your death to honor both of you for your service. Rest in Peace.

Yesterday I was at the Green Onion Restaurant in San Pedro. As I was waiting to be seated I was drawn to your picture. I instantly recognized your face and your smile. I know that I have seen you before but I can't remember when or where.

To the Tracy Family - I am truly sorry for your loss.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Mike, my friend. I miss you much and think of you often. I miss your laugh, your smile, and your incredible spirit. I visited the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC and I made a tracing of your name from your panel. I carry it with me everywhere as my way of remembering and respecting your memory. I met some LASD Deputies while there who said they knew you from going through the Academy with you many years before. One of them spoke of you as he remembered attending the FBI Academy with you. Everyone I spoke with mentioned your smile, your laugh, and your incredible attitude! I think back on all the times I spent with you on patrol. All the talks we had. You are the best! I look forward to sharing more laughs with you again one day!

Mike, I think I was 8 when I first met you but you played a huge role in my life. You'd be proud of me now-I wish I could stop by the station to tell you about it like I used. I miss you. You are my hero.

Mike, the time I knew you at the FBI National Academy was all too brief. You were a fine officer, a credit and role model to the profession in every way. It was obvious when I flew to the funeral that you were as fine a friend, husband, father and grandfather to all who had known you. It was an honor to have been a friend, if only for eleven weeks. Rest well.

Today is the service for LASD deputy Bain (Lancaster, Ca). I am unable to attend (I have the flu). I couldn't help but cry when I watched my husband, in uniform, leave for the service. This time it was for his friend. I hurt every time I hear of a fallen officer. I pray for all the families of fallen officers. Tracy was my fathers T.O. many, many years ago. Tracy recruited him, and my father looked up to him. He still talkes about what a wonderful man he was. God Bless

It seems like it was just yesterday that we were at the FBI National Academy. I remember sitting on the tailgate of a pickup in the parking lot telling stories. I can also remember us walking along together laughing as the others were running for their yellow brick. I will always remember your smile and easy going attitude.

I appreciate all you did for me and know that God is watching over you right now.
