Reflections for Sergeant Steven M. Shaw

Steven I can't believe it has been twelve years. I miss you and will always love you. Happy B-lated Birthday.

August 19, 2006

Sgt. Shaw, I was reading the paper yesterday (08-16-06), and cut your birthday rememberance out of the paper. Happy Birthday brother. I have lived in the city my whole life and want to thank you for your service. I was young at the time of your passing, but remember my father (Ret. Providence Police Officer), marching with you to your resting place as I watched on television that day. I placed your birthday rememberance in my locker yesterday. I hope I become the fine officer many people say you are.

Rest in Peace brother, and god bless your family.

I had the honor of attending Steve Shaw's funeral. It was a gathering of brothers from across the country that were there to honor a true hero. For those of us that remember that day, thousands of officers marched the snow laiden streets in zero degree weather for hours. We watch brother after brother officer pass out due to the cold, uniforms ruined, and long severe exposure to the elements. In the end, each of us walked away, knowing that every obsticle thrown at us was worth it because we were there for Steve Shaw. I didn't know you personally, but I can tell you that your memory lives on in Providence and that your death was not in vain. I had the priviledge of attending James Allen's funeral recently and thought of you and your valor. I met your sister and Dad at the FOP lodge and they still mourn your death.
Remember brother Steve, in Valor There is Hope. Godbless and you are not forgotten.

Steven, Happy Anniversary I will remember you always. In the rising of the sun and in its going down, In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, In the opening of buds and the rebirth of spring, In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of the summer, In the rustling of leaves and in the bounty of autumn, In the beginning of the year and when it ends, You will always have a special place in my heart forever, Love you

Steven I was going through my closet the other day and I came across the newspapers I saved from your death. I remember being in shock over the news of your death and I still am. I always think of what your life would have been if you were not robbed of it.Even though you are not here with us you are still on our minds everyday and we miss you!

I can't believe 10 years is already coming upon us with Steven's untimely death. I remember hearing the news as if it was yesterday. Even though I did not know you Steven, I know you died at what you loved doing. To your family who live on in your memory, may god bless you all. Steven I know you are watching over your fellow brothers and they will never forget. God bless!

When I was both a Providence Police Explorer Cadet and then a Providence Police Reserve Officer, I had the honor of knowing Steve Shaw, to see him in action, to ride with him, to see the courage he displayed daily. And now as a Police Officer myself, I take him on patrol with me daily.

Patrolman Chris Poncia

I can tell you that Steven will live forever in our hearts. He was a special individual that was robbed of his life at an early age. He was no doubt an "awesome" police officer, when they often don't get the respect they deserve, Steven showed what a true officer was. Even out of uniform he was a remarkable person. May God bless him and all our police officers.
Love You always your sister in law Enza Conte

May his badge and all it stands for shine brightly throughout eternity

Forever you will in our thoughts. You keep me striving forward, always watchful, always proud to wear that badge. I know that you are watching us. Semper Vigilans Brother.

Steve was a true hero, not by his death, but buy his actions. He obtained his position with the department on his own merits. He patrolled a sector of the city that vistors would not dare drive through. He made a difference!
