Your heroism and service is honored today, the 27th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was murdered on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I hold your family in thought and prayer today and pray for their solace.

Rest In Peace.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Harris Family,

You're father, son, brother, uncle, friend, husband,
Trooper Harris was not only doing his job as a Utah Peace Officer but as one that was what I strongly feel was one that makes and this very tragic and unfortunate case, was one that made him one of the best Troopers that have ever don the Uniform of Utah State Trooper, this scarfice and unselfish service in behalf of the citzens and state of utah will an should never ever be forgotten..
This was one that was human just as everyone else who got in the morning and put on his pants on maybe one leg at a time.
But was fullfilling a oath and duty that he was sworn to, that is a job to protect the many utahns and patrol the roadways of utah and uphold the laws of our state
sure he could of say no way the day he paid the ultimate scarfice but he didn't

I know there are hundreds and hundreds of women and many men as well who have lost their spouse the way I lost you Dan. But, the day you died, I was the only one in the world! That was a torturous time for me and our four children. I felt so sorry for them because they would never again experience that all-encompassing love you gave them.
My only consolation was that you died doing the only thing you ever wanted to do in your life. You were the happy motor officer with "bugs on your teeth."
I honor the legacy you left in my heart, with our children who are as smart as you are, and with all the officers who will never forget the mark you left on the Utah Highway Patrol.
Sleep safe and well my sweetheart and

Dad, We were very young when you were taken from our family and we missed your presence in our home, but our sadness has always been outweighed by the fact that you died in the most honorable way-serving your fellow man. You loved the law and you loved your job and you loved the Lord who told us, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matt. 25:40) You were always an advocate for those who society had overlooked. You made a difference in the lives of many souls who needed brotherly love and basic human kindness. You will always be remembered and loved for the compassion you showed. We will not let your memory die. Your grandchildren will be blessed because of your example. Love, Dannielle

Thanks Dad for being such a great example of service to your country. I hope that I can be as honorable as you and that I can teach my son (also named Daniel Harris) the same things that you would have taught me had you been here with me. I know that you are watching over me and my family. You're a great Dad and will never be forgotten.
