Reflections for Police Officer Guy Patrick Gaddis

Guy and I served together in the 978th MP Co. He was a friend to all and the one to make everyone laugh. I will always remember you that way. Thanks for your service and your friendship. God bless your family. I hope they are all as well as possible.

I was a young HPD officer when the call went out over the police radio on a HPD cruiser driving into a house in Bellaire ,Texas. Life flight landed where Officer Gaddis was transported to Hermann Hospital. I still remember the loud crying screams echoing throughout the hospital hallways when Officer Gaddi's mother was told of her son's death. I will never forgot this sad day 24 years later.

I still tell the young officers today in the training program as FTS and when i trained/evaluated rookies about Officer Gaddis line of duty death. R.I.P SIR

Myself and Guy were both stationed at Fort Bliss Texas at the same time. He was in the 978th MP Company and I was assigned to Center MP Company. Later we both attended the Houston Police Academy together. We graduated in October of 1992. When I found out Guy was killed, a little bit of me died with him. It had a profound effect on me for Officer Safety, as I became a Field Trainer and Evaluator. His death influenced not only me, but every rookie I trained. I am no longer in Law Enforcement now. From the sideline I watch those who still are in uniform. I see a lot of young new faces, that have stood up and said it's my turn and I will watch over you while you sleep. I think of those who lost their lives in the line of duty, and those who will succumb to the dangers of this calling. This career choice is like no other. This is a calling! Law Enforcement is a life style. A warrior to hold back evil. Someone who lives by a higher standard. Not everyone can do this job. For those of you who complain, and gripe about the police. I say step forward like those before you and be prepared that some day you may make the selfless sacrifice Guy has made. A true hero who has served his country and his community honorably. Rest in peace brother.

An odd thing happened to me this morning. Until seeing this I had forgotten what day it was. You know I will never forget you. I think about you daily, we speak often, and I still occasionally shed a tear thinking about you but since the monster was put down 2 years ago I spend less time thinking about this day and more time thinking about all the others.

With the help of Facebook I was able to get back into contact with Rose and Stephanie. A group of us are making a trip soon to get together with them and make sure they know we are here for them always. I'm looking forward to catching up with Rose and getting to know Stephanie, I haven't see her since she was a baby. Going to spend the day swapping stories, laughing, and probably a little crying. I know Stephanie already know how many lives you touched from things she h read here but it's time the little girl you never got to meet hears it first hand.

Miss you Super Rookie

I am the mother of a young officer killed in the line of duty. I am glad to say this murder got what he deserved. It will not bring Officer Gaddis back, at least this man has paid for his actions. So wish KY would stop it catch and release penalty and go back to the death penalty. Prayers to Officer Gaddis's family and the child he never got to meet.

I'm so glad this murderer has been put to death. I was so sad when this happened and have been waiting all these years for this day. I have never forgotten what happened to this young officer. He was to young to die. May he rest in peace.
