Thank you, Officer Hailey, for your dedication and service to Winston-Salem. When I was growing up I heard about you from my Granny - your sister - Ruth Hailey Gough. She spoke of you as "Red," for your red hair, a token of your Irish heritage. She also spoke of you with love; it was clear that you meant a lot to her, and to the rest of the family. Rest in peace, sir. You continue to be admired.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 64th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I never knew you. You died almost 20 years before I was born. But I knew your son very well. He was my father. He spoke of you so often I feel I've known you all my life. Your service, and love for your family will never be forgotten. Rest assured, my daughter will hear all about her Great Grandfather. God Speed.
