The final chapter has now been closed. The remaining scum you battled so bravely was found dead in his prison cell.
You are with God in his kingdom of Heaven and they are writhing in hell. We learned so much from your incident. You and your families gave so much that fateful night and for that, many many many LEO's go home to their loved ones. Keep resting easy Brother. God Bless All

My brother. I have known of your death since it happened. I was also told about it in the academy many years ago. Forgive me for having your memory slip to the back of my mind in recent years, especially after the sacrifice you made. Today I finished a book about your life and your death. I drove to the location where you died and although the place has changed a lot, emotions overcame me. I promise that you and your partners will never ever be forgotten by me again.

Officer Gore,

Thank you for your service. I first learned of you during my tenure at a law enforcement academy in Northern CA. The incident changed the way we conducted our business and this made you a permanent part of our lives.

You were never far from my thoughts and prayers during those traffic stops where one knows not what will come in the following few seconds.

It has been almost 40 years and you guys are still there, teaching us how to stay alive so that we can go home to our families.

It is because of you, we are safer. God bless you and your family. Your memory will live on forever. Rest in peace.

The "Newhall Incident" lives in our hearts and souls as we pause to remember you and your three fellow officers for your sacrifice and service which now serves as a standard for officer safety. We all owe you a debt of gratitude for what you gave that fateful night 39 years ago.

Every officer is trained better and can probably go home safely because of your sacrifice. Bless you!!! Bless all our blue angels. Just was in San Bernardino and witnessed a felony stop and thought of the four of you and how different things are now. Of course there is better firepower and there were cops of every uniform and patch available. But CHP made the stop by the book. I was so proud!! Thank you, guys!!

Love all four of you,

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 39th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

The lessons of the Newhall incident have probably saved countless lives since then. Unfortunately, no matter how well trained or competent the officers are, every day on the job is a day of peril. Within the last three weeks 4 brave officers from Oakland, CA and 3 brave officers from Pittsburgh, PA have been murdered by thugs wielding AK-47s.
How brave are each of our true American heroes who face danger each day he or she pins on thier badges to police our streets so that our communities may be safeguarded.

I was just a rookie Policeman on Patrol when it was announced via radio of the "Newhall Incident" You four brothers indeed changed Police Work in California and I will never forget that awful day. After the incident there was no longer any seals on shotguns and no more red plastic plugs in the barrel of Police 12 gauge shotguns. Police no longer saved their brass at the range. Police tactics forever changed that day. May you rest in peace, Sir and thank you for your service to the people of the State of California. God Bless!

When tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not there to see; If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me; I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did today, while thinking of the many things we didn't get to say. I know how much you love me, as much as I love you, and each time you think of me I know you'll miss me too; But when tomorrow starts without me, try to understand, that an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand, and said my place was ready in Heaven far above, and that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love. But as I turned to walk away, a tear fell from my eye, for all my life, I'd always thought I didn't want to die. I had so much to live for and so much yet to do, it seemed almost impossible that I was leaving you. I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad, I thought of all the love we shared and all the fun we had. If I could relive yesterday, I thought, just for a while, I'd say good-bye and kiss you and maybe see you smile. But then I fully realized that this could never be, for emptiness and memories would take the place of me. And when I thought of worldly things I'd miss come tomorrow, I thought of you, and when I did, my heart was filled with sorrow. But when I walked through Heaven's gates, I felt so much at home. When God looked down and smiled at me, From His great golden throne, He said, "This is eternity and all I've promised you. Today for life on earth is past but here it starts anew. I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last, and since each day's the same day, there's no longing for the past. But you have been so faithful, so trusting and so true. Though there were times you did some things you knew you shouldn't do. But you have been forgiven and now at last you're free, so won't you take my hand and share my life with me?" So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right there in your heart.

You were that which others did not want to be. You went where others feared to go and did what others failed to do. You asked nothing from those who gave nothing and reluctantly accepted the fact of eternal loneliness should you fall. You have seen the face of terror and felt the stinging cold of fear. You have loved, cried, suffered, and hoped, but most of all, you have lived times others would say were “best forgotten.” At least you were able to say that you were proud of what you were - a cop.

Thank you, hero.

This week, I provided a Lieutenant with a copy of the photograph depicting Your patrol vehicles and the photograph depicting the four of You at the Coroner's Office.

Many are aware that the CHP made several changes as a direct result of Your incident.

What many do did not know regarding Your tragic incident is the following:

More than twenty years after that tragic day, I represented the LAPD at a California P.O.S.T. conference regarding rewriting the textbook for patrol tactics. It was because of Your tragic incident that I was able to convince the LAPD as well as P.O.S.T. to dispense with the term "felony vehicle pullovers." Your incident involved a crime that was only a Misdemeanor. As a result today we use the term "high-risk vehicle pullover."

The Lieutenant and I will be showing the CHP tape and discussing Your murder at an upcoming Roll Call. Rest-In- Peace, Brothers.....

I knew Roger Gore, I grew up in a small town in snelling Calif. I was his brother's best friend, Timmy Gore. I remember that day as if it was yesterday, and will never forget the support that the CHP gave. I have also gone through another Officers Death, Deputy Andy Taylor, who was shot in the line of Duty in Llano County. I participated in the man hunt for his killer, and was there at the end of the chase. I serve with pride to have known each of these Officers, and there loved ones will always be part of my family.

Officer Gore: I remember this tragedy so vividly. I was young and (then) was married to a young CHP Officer and we were so upset that this could happen. But your sacrifice has saved the lives of so many officers after you and your three fellow officers were murdered. The words "Newhall Incident" now mean better training in officer safety and we are grateful that your loss was not in vain. You spirit is carried inside each new officer and those of us who are neither new nor even officers. You are not forgotten and I know you are standing at each rookie's side.

Keep Heaven, ready for someday, all of us who believe in God will join you and Officers Frago, Pence and Alleyn and the other angels in blue who have made the supreme sacrifice. You are remembered, loved and appreciated and I still pray for your families and co-workers.

With love,
