Officer Gannon, 4 days from now (April 6) the anniversary of another good man who died in a similar way will be observed, another Irishman in fact. Officer Devil of the Boston College Police Department passed away after breathing fumes that, though it took years to finally take him, we also live in a time when things are more treatable, hence his ability to last (and continue working) for so much longer.

You gave your life doing the job 75 years ago today. You are a hero, not for dying, but for living.

God Bless you and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.

Your heroism and service is honored on this 72nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminisher respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace

Who knew that over 60 years later, Personal Protective Equipment and respiratory protection training would be included in academy teachings. May no officer fall as a result of inhaling noxious toxins again, and should remember you always as braving the unknown in duty to the citizens of Boston.
