Reflections for Patrolman Thomas Francis Gaffney

Thank you, Mike Casey, for your remembrance. Thomas Gaffney was my grandfather. The family is having a large gathering on June 29th, starting with a mass at St. Saviour Church, where his funeral was held. The NYPD Family Assistance Division and the Ceremonial Unit are offering outstanding support.

Having just found this website, I'm now belatedly thanking the people who have left kind thoughts and remembrances for my grandfather. The recurring theme of 'not forgotten' is still literally accurate. Although he died 91 years ago, his daughter, our beloved Aunt Jeanne, is still with us, and still has as sharp a memory as anyone.

My brothers and sisters, children, cousins, etc. still visit the NYPD Line of Death Memorial to pay our respects, and we live always with the memory of a man we never met, but whom we have always loved. This tradition will continue into future generations, and grandpa will never be forgotten.

May all of your comrades and loved ones rest in peace.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 88th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was murdered on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace.

I said a little prayer today for Patrolman Gaffney and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.
