Kent, I'll always remember the first time we met in 1990. I was a complete mess as a trainee at MCJ trying to clear count with a wooden board full of screwed up JRC's. You took the time to help me out, which will never be forgotten. From that point on I considered you a friend. I think about you often, and you are always in my thoughts and prayers. I look forward to the day we meet again.

htnk about you often,

We went to Jr. High, Calhi and I think, maybe even elementary school together. We played baseball during the summer...on opposing teams and became Deputy Sheriff’s at about the same time…You went to L.A. County and me I went south to the O.C. It was a sad day when I got home, turned on the news and heard about what had happened. I had to do a double take because I couldn’t believe what I had heard. It hit hard when they said your name. It’s hard to hear about a fellow officer being killed in the line of duty. It’s even harder when it is someone you have known for a very long time. You are loved by your family and missed by your friends. Take care and continue to look after them.

I remember when we used to work together (a long time ago) for Von's Grocery Company, before you started your career in law enforcement. You were so much fun to work with, a real upbeat, hardworking guy. And funny too. Once, you had me laughing so hard, I had to hold onto something to keep from falling down. I remember you told me that you had transferred from L.A. County to Riverside County and thought that was great; you would be closer to your home. I remember walking in the door at home, the TV was on, and heard your name on the news; I was shocked. Why should such a thing happen to such a great guy. Your friends still miss you!

I loveee you dad :).
I know that I never got to meet you, but I can tell how special you were by the way people always talk about you. I love hearing things about you and howw you always pullled pranks on people and had a great sense of humor. You will always be remembered. Thank you for the support you have for my family and the love you shared with my mother and sister. I always think about you and cannot wait for the day that I will get to see you face to face for the first time in Heaven.
I love you daddy - Your daughter, Kena Alana

Kent: I still remember our days in the academy together with fondness(LASD Class #255). We also had alot of good times together while working at Los Angeles County Central Jail. I remember how sad it was for me when you made the decision to leave L.A. County for Riverside County Sheriff's Dept. But we all understood you left for the betterment of your family life. And what a family you had and still have. The day you were killed was one of the worst of my life. When ever I run into other people from our academy class, your name seems to alwys come up. You were taken from us too soon but your memory lives on in each of us who knew you. Rest in peace my brother..............Alan

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Kent, I remember walking into the LASD pre-employment unit and seeing you working behind the counter as an off the streeter. Unfortunately, It took a while for me to get hired. I started the LASD academy in May of 1994, on the wall of the classroom was a memorial to fallen officers. I can recall the feeling I had when I recognized my old school friend. It felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would see something like that. To this day, I have always felt nothing but pride to have known you. I just wish I could have been there to back you up on that fateful night. I am sure you are missed by many, including me. Take care my brother. I know you are still watching all our backs. Later, Steve
