Monday will be sixty five years since you were taken from your family, I know because I was born in October of 56 . I never knew you but have always carried pride for the man who is my Grandfather. One day we will meet. Love you grandpa. James

"Pat" lived down the street from us in Whittier, CA. On December 6 1956, my Dad and I were out when we met with Pat. He was heading home for dinner at the time. Imagine the thrill for this nine-year-old boy, when Pat gave me a ride home in his patrol car.

My parents sat me down the next day and told me he'd been killed in the line of duty later that night.

I never forgot him nor did I forget the circumstances that took his life. There's no question he inspired me to survive.
