Patrolman Esau,
On today, the 89th anniversary of your murder, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Chicago. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. It took another year, but your murderers finally got the justice that they deserved.

How it was told to me from his twin sister (my mother)... Every Sunday Art would walk into Walgreen's at the corner of Addison and Clark. He was not on duty, he walked in on the robbery and told the two robbers to give up their guns and he would see that they would get a break. He did not know that there was a third robber behind the soda fountain. As Art walked by, the robber stood up and shot him in the back. These robbers would then be the first electricuted in Cook County.

It is so strange to see your picture next to the name Arthur F. Esau, because that was my fathers name as well. You were my grandfathers twin brother and in your honor when my father was born they gave him your name. My father was also taken from us at the early age. He was not as young as you, but at 55 that is still to young. I married a Chicago Police Officer a few years before my father passed away and I always felt he was very proud to have him as a son-in-law. Part of that may have been because of you. My husband has been with the Department for almost 35 years. We have been married for 23.
We will be attending a Salute to Chicago's Finest in your honor Aug. 27,2005. My uncle, your nephew made the donation in your honor.
