Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Winfield Scott Edie

Scott, now that we are retired, we think about you even more. Can you just imagine the fun us four would have ? I'm so sorry you left so early. We love you and we will all be together again when God sees fit.

hey Brother. its me again. today was another eye opener. you know. Today I realized (while feeding the kittens) that my first memory was you. My first best .anyway. I didn't realize until recently how much YOU and your beautiful spirit helped create me. To this day I look to you for guidance. I search the stars for you. Two songs resonate with me. Daniel by Elton and The sound of Silence. I kept trying to find ten thousand people in that light bulb. lol and ya I finally figured it out. I miss you Brother, you know , Im quite certain. Hey Brother, Whaddup Buttercup?! recently I realized why I say that so often. My earliest memories are of Wallace farm. and you showing me how a buttercup, or dandelion could turn your chin yellow*. And thank you for saving me from that Goat! I liked the way you pushed the swing way better than that thing did. I miss you. I think of you every time I pick up my guitars. my Grandson wants to be a "saver" like you. and Justin most certainly has your heart and spirit. and he looks so much like you. I know my first, first responder was you. Thank you for watching out for us.
I know your watch never ends. I miss you! K

Scott - I was acquainted with you growing up and then had the privilege of working with you a short while before I moved to the coast. You were always so full of laughter and so much fun to be around. I've got a video of you at my wedding. I can't believe you've been gone so long. I'm looking forward to our reunion in heaven. I still miss you.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

You were hilighted on the website today, over 22 yrs.
after your EOW. Your death was very sad, but you are
safe in your Savior's arms, alive and well. Only He knows why your time here was short. We can only trust that Papa knows best. Our hope is that you are in Heaven praising the Lord and waiting till that trumpet blows and you will come with Jesus in the air to meet your loved ones who are also waiting for that great and glorious day! See you then!

Scott was my cousin, but as our families were so close he seems more like a brother. Scott cared about people. He went into law enforcement not to arrest criminals, but to protect and serve people. He was a loving father and husband and one of the friendliest people I ever knew. He had a zest for life and an abundant sense of humor.

Scott was devoted to Jesus and the strength of his faith in God remains as a testament on how to live a Christian life.

Thank you Scott for all you did for me. I love you and miss you, but I know we will see each other again.
