Reflections for Police Officer Russell Lowell Duncan

RIP sir.

Retired First Sergeant Thomas Webb, New York State Police.

Red and Blue Lights Cover seventy five like a train.
Miles of cars full of people with nothing to say.
The suns out, you think that it's just another November day.
Oh and I can't help but be mad knowing I'll leave and you're gonna stay.
They called me on a cell phone telling me there's an officer down.
And we prayed for a miracle, but you didn't come back around.
Oh I kissed you goodbye a thousand times, but never like I'm doing right now.
Oh we're 21 shots going up for the officer down.
I begged you to sew up that T-shirt that I sleep in now.
And badge number four fifty seven is all over town.
And people keep asking if there's anything that they can do, but no one can give me back you.
They called me on a cell phone telling me there's an officer down.
And we prayed for a miracle, but you didn't come back around.
Oh I kissed you goodbye a thousand times, but never like I'm doing right now.
Oh we're 21 shots going up for the officer down.
I held you tight when they told me it's time to let go.
And I know that somehow you knew that you weren't alone.
They called me and told me it's my officer down.
And I talked to you and begged you, but you didn't come back around.
Oh I kissed you goodbye a thousand times, but never like I'm doing right now.
Oh we're 21 shots going up.
I wish you had more time with us.
Cuz thirty three years ain't enough, for the officer down.

I do not know Mr. Duncan but from what I can tell he was a very amazing man. I am not quite sure if anyone will read this but if someone were to stumble upon it I hope it be one of his daughters or wife. My name is Stephanie and I am a Justice Studies major through the School od social transformation at ASU & I recently received a scholarship from the " Russell L Duncan Memorial Golf Classic and I just wanted to thank all the staff & especially Mr Duncan himself for creating such long lasting friendships with people who speak so highly of him and made this happen for me as well. I am beyond thankful.

5 days after my son Chad was born, I lost my good, good friend Russ. I think of you often my brother. I made my career in Law Enforcement after your terrible loss and worked side by side with your great brother Brian. RIP my friend.

Grew up with Billie and Sharon Duncan as my second set of parents, with Russ and Brian as close as my own siblings. Such a tragedy! Still think about Russ all the time. Love ya brother!

Looking back over the years I have periodically wondered what life would have been like it my childhood neighbor and high school football buddy would have survived the unlikely accident. I can only imagine that his wonderful family would not feel the loss of this great guy with a great sense of humor, and fair-minded and caring personality. I do not know if souls can hear what’s going on here on earth, but I believe God hears: Rusty, my friend is surely missed. I pray that Russ’s Family is well taken care of, consoled in their loss, I hope, by caring people like me that still think about him around this time of year.May the peace of Christ that surpasses understanding rest on Russ’s loved ones.

My faithful servant.
You were called upon to serve others.
You were asked to see, what no man should ever have to see.
To go through, what no man should ever have to go through.
But you did so with pride, honor, and integrity.

My faithful servant.
You were called upon to defend those, who could not defend themselves.
To provide justice to those, who did not respect it.
To lay down your life, if the time called for it.
Again, you did not question what was asked of you.
You did it with love, compassion, and loyalty.

My faithful servant.
In times of adversity, you prayed for strength.
In times of triumph, you praised your Lord.
You served your Country, State, and city proud.
Your service will forever be remembered by the many lives you’ve touched.

My faithful servant.
When your service on this earth is finally complete.
I will welcome you home with open arms.
I will embrace you and proclaim,
“Well done thou good and faithful servant.”

I wrote this when I lost a good friend (Police officer) to a horrible disease (cancer). I think it applies to all law enforcement officers (that’s who I had in mind as I wrote), but it resonates most when we lose one in the line of duty…RIP my brother.

My x-husband and I used to be friends with Russ. His parents had a cottage down from my in-law's cottage and I always thought the Duncan's were the greatest family. Russ and Dee and my husband and I were always out on the water fishing or on water skis. I missed them so much when they moved to Arizona and when the tragedy struck it was so unbelievable and shocking. How could this happen to such a great guy?? It always felt so surreal because we lived so far away and by then I had three little kids of my own. Trolling through the internet, remembering the past, I found this site. What a great memorial for a wonderful person.

Hi Daddy,

Remembering you today. We all love and miss you! I'm pregnant with my first child, so this year is especially hard thinking of you not being able to know your grandchild. But I rest in the fact that God is in control of life and death - and there is a time for everything (Ecc. 3).

Love always,

Hi Daddy,

Yesterday would have been you and mom's 35th wedding anniversary. And 27 years ago today God ended your time with us here on Earth. We still think and dream of you and wish you were here with us to experience some of life's milestones. I'm 28 this year, the same age you were when you passed. I too am married like you were but no kids yet-you had 3. I can't imagine...

You are loved and missed - Remembering you today!

Love always,
Stephanie Rae (Daughter #3)

Russ and I were high school friends in Garden City. We lost touch when I moved in 11th grade to Plymouth. It saddens me to learn of his untimely passing. He was a wonderful friend and I can only imagine what a great man he became. Rest in peace Russ.
