As I visit this tribute of my late grandfather that I never got to meet, I cannot help but think of "what might have been" if you were not killed in the line of duty on that Father's Day in 1956. I can imagine you and I being the best of friends, going fishing together, drawing/sketching, to just sitting around telling stories of the good ol' days. I am thankful for you in so many ways... I wish for 5 minutes to just shake your hand to give my appreciation, but that day will come. The stories that I have learned from my father and grandmother will forever be retold to my children, keeping a piece of you alive for years to come.

On a another note, my family and I will never forget those officers who gave all, the ultimate sacrifice, while serving the people of their communities. I pray each day for the safety and well being of the officers & first-respondents who pound the pavement each and every day protecting, serving, and caring for the citizens of the United States of America. Thank you!

Godspeed Officer Dowdy (Grandpa) & the several other LEOs who have laid their lives down in the line of duty.

God Bless,

Tim Dowdy
Grandson

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 56th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

I never knew my grandfather, Jim. I have heard so many wonderful things about his life. I just recently viewed a film that was put together by my brother, (Jims grandson) and it was amazing. I will cherish the film for the rest of my life. Jim seemed like a very happy, funny man who loved my grandmother and my father very much. I could never imagine someone having to go through what they went through. I never knew Jim, but he is a part of me. Dad, if you read this, I Love You So Much. Please be strong!

Your father is remembered by each of us who pin on a badge.

Loss, even 50+ years later is still hard to accept. But Officer Dowdy's life was not in vain.

Thanks to those at ODMP for sharing something that is so close to me and my family with the rest of the world. To see my dad's information concerning his untimely death right after my own 50th birthday brings back too many memories to put into words. I would, with all sincerity and humility, only ask those who are active-duty public servants, no matter the color of their uniform or the badge they operate behind, to be careful as they can be, always remembering that those who love them are home waiting for their safe return; and I say these words in hope that a young chid, a wife, or a husband will never have to know what it is like to still be waiting for "daddy" to get home, a half-century later.
God Bless You All,
Larry L. Dowdy (son)
