The Police Officer represent all our citizens. This Officer was doing our work and for that he died. There is no justice to allow anyone that kills an Officer to have Parole and enjoy life!

I believe that anyone involved in the killing of a police officer should be executed or at least serve life without the possibility of parole.

Another animal might get a chance to roam the streets again, and do harm to an innocent, if you let him out. Then you will say he slipped through the cracks.Lets plug those cracks NOW D COLE

This officer is a fine example of a devoted, brave police officer who observed an armed robbery and alone, took instant action to apprehend the two felons. He was shot while attempting to his duty. The parole board must take into account the seriousness of the perpetrators actions and deny this person his freedom. Let's try to keep our streets safe, do not let another criminal prey on the public and kill or injure another police officer.

To the DeKorte Family, Its been many a year since Bob was taken from us and i visit this site often so i dont forget what Bob looked like. I worked at Deel Ford where Bob would come in on his lunch breaks. We would sit at the desks in the body shop and eat our lunches togather. I remember how friendly he was and how much he loved his job. It was because of him i left Deel Ford and became a Police Officer , first with Dade Public Safety then With Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. Bob, I hope I lived up to your standards and made you proud. You had a direct impact on my life that made it possitve. God bless you and rest in peace.

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

To the DeKorte Family.

Your father was not only a hero protecing the community he was also responsible for me becoming a Police Officer. I grew up in Coral Gables and Bob would come by a couple a days a week to see my Dad, they were friends. He would let me sit in his patrol car and turn the siren on. As a little boy I was so taken by him and it was then that my road for the rest of my life was laid out. I have been an Officer since 1974 and I am due to retire in July 2008. May God Bless you all and Bob rest peacefully knowing you have been part of me for a long time.

Respectfully submitted;

Sergeant William "Chopsey" Kean

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer DeKorte. We honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. We rarely know it when a hero walks among us. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer DeKorte has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family of Officer DeKorte, I want to say that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer DeKorte is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
