Special Agent Althouse will be remembered, along with many other victims of crime, at the annual Candlelight Vigil of the Central Alabama Chapter of VOCAL (Victims of Crime and Leniency). This event is held annually to commemorate National Crime Victims' Rights Week and to honor and remember victims of crime. We appreciate his service and sacrifice. We met his sweet parents during an appeal hearing in Shelby County, Alabama.

Doug, today I met your mother while shopping in Lancaster, PA. During our conversation she happened to mention you and the circumstances surrounding your tragic death. It was touching and emotional listening to her. But I want you to know she still has a big smile when she speaks of you. It is obvious she was, and still is, so very proud of you. She is a sweet lady who misses you very much. My God bless her and the rest or those you left behind. And thank you for your service. Pest in peace my friend.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 20th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Rest In Peace.

IT HAS BEEN MANY YEARS BUT I STILL THINK OF YOU OFTEN. I AM GLAD I HAD THE OPPERTUNITY TO NOT ONLY WORK WITH YOU BUT ALSO TO GET TO KNOW YOU. IF I HAD ONLY KNOWN WITHIN A FEW MINUTES AFTER I TALKED TO YOU THAT NIGHT YOUR LIFE WOULD BE TAKEN, I WOULD DEFINATELY TOLD YOU HOW MUCH I NOT ONLY LEARNED FROM YOU BUT RESPECTED YOU.REST IN PEACE YOU ARE GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little tra

Doug,

I remember the night you were killed. It seemed every cop in Alabama was looking for your killer and we all wanted two things: him dead and you alive. Well, the coward who murdered you got away that night, but was later caught, convicted and sentenced to death. He's still alive, sitting on death row in Atmore. I know it won't bring you back, but him getting the lethal injection he deserves may help ease the pain of you being gone.

You were a great agent, and you have been missed!
