I just listened to the 2nd Dragnet episode. It was dedicated to Officer Cooks memory. Thanks to the advances in technology the stories of these men will live on forever and people like myself who never heard of Mr. Cookwill no history and remember the man and his family.

We must not forget the threats law enforcement officers face each day. The dangers in past decades existed just as they di today. Law enforcement officers bravely face these dangers to keep our citizens safe and help when they call. Officer Cook is a hero. Peace to his soul.

Some years ago, I had asked for reflections, to be sent to me at Southwest (formerly known as University) Station, of the officers killed in the line-of-duty, there. A retired cop by the name of Ralph Kelly , wrote to me from Yarnell, AZ and shared the following about Delmar Cook:

"Delmar was an academy classmate of mine. He and his partner recieved a radio call of a violent male mental. While approaching the house, the suspect exited brandishing a .45 cal. automatic. Delmar ducked behind the closest object, which was a bush. His partner stepped back and behind the police car. The suspect fired, hitting Delmar behind the bush, and killed him.

Delmar was a friendly, quiet, serious, deliberative, pipe-smoker...sort of a Sherlock Holmes type.

It was one of life's rewards to work with men of this caliber...they will not be forgotten."

Sincerely,
Raplh Kelly
