Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Wesley Green Cole

I was fortunate to have known Deputy Wessley Cole his wife three daughters and son. This was not an ordinary man he is and was a Husband father and welcomed me to their home where I spent days and nights before moving days after his End of Watch. I was a 9 year old boy he was a father figure a hero and a man with great values integrity and love of his country community and especially his wife daughters and son who was my best friend. I never got to call or say goodbye or give my deepest condolences to Mrs. Cole or his children. Lyndell I am sure your walked with the same values I remember you like it was yesterday and your sisters especially your mother & father who took me with y'all on a weekend fishing trip on a lake with a cabin we stayed at. What great memories & appreciation for your Father's love of all of you and those who be touched with his kindness and treated me like his own family. I wish I would have known how to say what I'm saying now to let others know what a great man your father is. He loved his family God and Country his community and gave his life protecting someone's vehicle and their belongs. How sad I was I cried hearing it on the news my mom and dad along w my two sisters consider you and your family as friends forever until we meet again along with our loved ones that passed. My mother served 24 years in public service I'm sure your father has watched over us above as the protector and provider he will always have a long w you your mother and sisters hold a special place in my heart for eternity due to the treasures we shared growing up together for a few years while we lived in Bixby. I remember your dad giving us a nickel or quarter for every bubble bee we trapped so they wouldn't keep burrowing holes in the fence barn and lumber at your home.

What great times we had. I am truly sorry and so glad I searched again I did when I lived in Norman from 1980 to 1986 there wasn't a site like this to share the honor & privilege of witnessing to give you and your family a small token of love back to all he did for me as a boy. I am and will always look forward to our meeting again as we leave our loved ones when our time is up! Eric Williams

Sacrifice. Daddy's sacrifice. To know just what that means. Daddy missed all four of his children's HS graduations. He missed all of the college graduations. He missed walking his three daughters down the marriage aisle. He missed the birth of all 6 of his grandchildren. He missed being called Grandpa. He missed the joy of teasing his grandkids and watching them become. He missed his son's graduation from the police academy. He missed watching his son carry on his legacy of service in law enforcement. He missed watching his garden grow every year. He missed all those years of hunting and fishing trips with his best friends. He missed watching his wife's hair turn silver. He missed being at his father's bedside when he died. He missed 42 Christmases and Thanksgivings. He missed 42 celebrations of his birthday. Sacrifice. Some gave all and their families still miss all.

Wesley Cole was a good friend of my Dad and Mom. My dad worked for the City of Tulsa as a Supervisor of the Police and Firetruck Mechanics. Mr. Coles death had a huge impact on my mom and dad. They always talked highley of him. My dad has passed recently and thinking back on his life brought back the memory of Mr.Cole. I just felt impelled to let his family know how he touched my parents life.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 40th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

I pray for solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections. I am sure yo are proud that your son continued your legacy of protecting and serving.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

WESLEY COLE WAS MY FATHER'S PARTNER ON THE TULSA SHERIFF'S OFFICE. HIS NAME WAS DEAN TABOR. HE WASN'T WITH WESLEY THE NIGHT HE WAS KILLED AT THE CAMELOT INN IN TULSA. DAD WAS NEVER THE SAME. DEAN DIED IN 1996. I MET WESLEY AS HE VISITED THE HOME PLACE IN TULSA SHORTLY AFTER I RETURNED FROM THE VIETNAM WAR. HE WAS A NICE GUY.

My sincerest condolences to Lnydall Cole & family. My heart is deeply saddened to hear of the loss of any officer who has given their life in the line of duty. Kudos for following in your fathers footsteps Lyndall. I'm proud of both you and your father for selflessly serving the public. I can't think of any show besides Andy Griffith that had good morals in each episode to pass on to everyone. Take care and God bless you and yours Lnydall.

I worked 7 years with TCSO and I worked for Sgt. Cole's son while I was there. His son is a credit to his upbringing and as part of this brotherhood I too miss Sgt. Cole.

Wesley was my great-uncle. He died when I was a small child, but I grew up hearing many stories about this great man. He was an inspiration to my late father, who spent his life in law enforcement as well. I have continued this family tradition of law enforcement service and I'm currently a criminal justice instructor. Wesley, as well as the other brave officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, serve as an inspiration to all of us.

Sgt. Cole, you will never be forgotten for several reasons. The main reason is because of your son Lyndall. He has lead a life that would make any father proud. He is couragous, honest and a outstanding role model. He has worked hard to make sure the TCSO deputys lost on duty were not forgotten by following up on researce and posting their stories for all to honor. I was working the night you were taken and I will never forget your courage and dedication to the job and your family. Rest in peace my brave brother.

DEPUTY SHERIFF WESLEY COLE WAS MY FATHER. I AM CURRENTLY EMPLOYED WITH THE SAME SHERIFF'S OFFICE HE WAS. GROWING UP SOME OF MY FONDEST MEMORIES WERE OF DAD COMING HOME FROM WORK AND LAYING DOWN WITH ME IN HIS RECLINER WITH HIS UNIFORM ON AND WATCHING THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW AND CARTOONS. THIS WAS AN EVERYDAY OCCURENCE FOR THE TWO OF US. I AM VERY PROUD OF MY DAD AND FEEL HIS PRESENCE EVERYTIME I PUT ON MY UNIFORM. BECAUSE OF MY FAMILY'S EXPERIENCE, I HAVE CONDUCTED RESEARCH ON OUR OFFICE TO DISCOVER ALL OF OUR SLAIN DEPUTIES. WE HAD NO RECORDS, BUT OVER THE PAST 15 YEARS, I HAVE ACCOUNTED FOR TWELVE SO FAR FROM NEWSPAPER ARCHIVES. ALL OFFICERS AND THEIR FAMILIES, PAST AND PRESENT, DESERVE THIS RECOGNITION. I THANK THE CREATORS OF THIS WEB SITE FOR ITS CREATION. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS. LYNDALL COLE 02-06-02
