Reflections for Police Officer Phillip W. Cardillo

Having been born in MN in 1973, I only recently learned of the tragic, April, 1972, ambush of honorable Officer Phillip Cardillo and his courageous fellow officers. I was struck by the bravery of the NYPD officers that day, especially Officer Cardillo who made the ultimate sacrifice for his city, state, and country. I was shocked, angered, and saddened by the absence of certainm disgraceful city officials at his bedside and funeral.

As a onetime resident of Manhattan, I respectfully offer my gratitude and condolences to Officer Cardillo's friends and fellow officers in the NYPD, past and present. In particular, I extend my condolences to Officer Cardillo's family whose Thank you, Tracy S.

It was an honor to be present at the street re-naming ceremony yesterday for slain Ptl. Phil Cardillo. It took 43 years for the city to finally and officially recognize his sacrifice. Politics and political correctness should never interfere with murder investigations. God bless the Cardillo family and their extended NYPD family.

If Officer Cardillo attended St. Michael's elementary school, he was in my class from Grade 1 to Grade 8. He was a true hero and I'm sorry it took so long to honor his service.

After reading "Circle of Six" I immediately ordered my memorial wrist band and have worn it now for 3 years. Officer Cardillo is the definition of "HERO". My blood boils, over the treatment of this Hero Police Officer. With two sons serving with the NYPD the Memory of Officer Philip W. Cardillo will NEVER be forgotten. God bless your family.

"Remember Cardillo"
was stamped in red on all NYPD mail/correspondence for days, months and years after executed Officer Philip Cardillo was posthumously left to twist in the wind by the infamous Circle of Six (NYC Mayor Lindsay, NYC Police Commissioner Ward, NYC Congressman Rangel, et al.)
A "Remember Cardillo" patch should be official uniform issue for all members the NYPD; from rookie P.O.'s to the Chief of Department.
God Bless Officer Philip Cardillo and his family.
May he be resting in God's loving embrace.
God Bless the NYPD - New York's FINEST.

My shield number was 26476 as a patrolman and although we were appointed in close proximity I didn't know Philip. I was in the Bronx but I remember the outrage and frustration we all felt. We will never forget even though there are some who wanted this to just go away.
My son now wears the uniform and serves the city in Brooklyn. Peace be with you and your family.

Mrs Loya,
First of all, I wish to offer you my deepest condolences on the loss of your son Larry. His sacrifice and that of your' families weighs heavy upon the hearts of all that wore the badge.

Mrs Loya, please read the numerous articles about PO Phil Cardillo, his death, the terrorism that existed in 1970's New York, and the refusal of New York politicians to bring his murderers to justice. I proudly wore the badge of a third generation member of the NYPD. But what happened this day in 1972 is inexcusable. This was terrorism excused by politicians.

Mrs Loya, Please feel free to contact me at I would love the privilege.

I just read a recent article about the Cardillo investigation. This article said that neither the then Mayor or police commissioner attended Phillip's funeral. Is this true? Was it at the request of the family? This last question is asked because when my son was murdered, we requested that no politicans speak (except for our state attorney general) because my son had attended police funerals where he felt some speakers were using the occasion for their own political agenda rather than to show respect and it disgusted him.

If the Mayor and police commissioner did not attend for any other reasons, that is shameful and I understand the resentment NYPD officers felt at their no show. This whole situation is disgraceful and the Cardillo family deserves the truth.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 40th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered,

I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

After reading the accounts of your murder I am compelled to learn more about that day. I hope progress has been made on your case and that justice will be served.

Rest In Peace.

Absolutely disturbing!! Sacrificing JUSTICE in the name of political expedience is on its face value WRONG. Often we are told that holding people responsible for their actions would cause more suffering. Justice is not an obstacle to stability and peace, it is a prerequisite. People who don't want to face justice are using our fear, but it is by caving in that we assure injustice will go on forever. When will Justice be served for this brave man how stood the line between good and evil? He swore to protect and serve and gave his life? Do we not owe him in return? God help this country.

sir,

it is a shame that ur death has not been vindicated. there is no excuse for this to have happened to u. i am truly sorry for the heartache that i know this has caused ur family and friends. i do find solace in the fact that one day, all who is responsible for ur death and subsequent cover-up will b judged and punished accordingly.
