Reflections for Deputy Sheriff William Butler, Jr.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

Billy,

I am sorry it has taken me so many days to write this. I never thought I would be leaving you a message here. I have been trying to find the words to express to you, your family, friends, and colleagues. I personally still feel the ripple of that day. Even here in Hawaii, my phone began to go crazy. As the news came to me, I went numb. After 30 years in this profession, I broke. Sarah and the kids already know how great of a man you were, so there is no need to express that to them here. I will miss your laughter and hold close to the memories of our wild/good times. I will never forget you as a great friend. Although Miles apart, but still a great friend. I pray for peace for your family, friends, and colleagues. You are and will continue to be genuinely missed, Billy.
