Reflections for Conservation Officer Vernon Scott Averill

I am a Patrol Sgt for the Wyoming, Mi Police Department, and have been for nearly 25 years. I am related as a second cousin to DNR Officer Vernon Scott Averill. I have only heard stories throughout my childhood regarding this tragic incident, and sincerely apologize for not sending this refection sooner. I can only wish I had the experience to meet this fine Officer. My sincere condolences to all the family and Law Enforcement Officers that continue to protect. RIP Officer Averill

Today in my Criminal Justice GAVC class for Morris IL our assignment was to pick a fallen officer and do a presentation on them. I chose Vernon Scott Averill because I think he needs to be recognized. Losing a fallen officer is a devastating loss for their loved ones and the community. Officer Averill played a crucial role in protecting our natural resources and ensuring the safety of our environment. His dedication and service will always be remembered. Sending my deepest condolences to the Averill family and friends that were affected by this loss.
