My heart is broken with the loss of Deputy Matt Pierson. He was an awesome cadet, and he was ready to protect and serve his community.

He will be missed by his classmates, HCC Class 22E, the instructors, and myself, but God had other plans and needed him more.

We will love and treasure the memories of Matt's witty, charming, and bigger than life personality.

God bless you, Matt, and I'll see you again someday.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died but by how he lived! A great man has secured a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you for your law enforcement service, to your family, and to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

Heavenly Father, You are Compassionate and Merciful. None of America’s Peace Officers leave home without the fear of not returning at the end of their watch. It is a fear that is lived daily. Unfortunately, the worst does sometimes come to pass, and lives are left shattered. Lord God, bless and keep the hearts and souls of those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. Wipe away the tears from their eyes. Soothe their pain and bind up their emotional wounds through the wounds of Your beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. In His name, I pray. Amen.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

On behalf of the Ohio Attorneys General Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation, our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Deputy Sheriff Matthew Pierson and the extended law enforcement family of the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Texas.

End of Watch Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

By Jon F. Hooper

Sheriff Pierson, when you chose to be a cop, you chose to dedicated your life to protecting others that they may be safe. Our Lord, who sees all and knows all, took you away at a very young age and after only two days of service. He will reward you abundantly. My heart breaks for the sorrow that your loved ones are experiencing. May God immerse you and them in His Divine Mercy. Rest in peace, good and faithful servant.
