Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff David Bosecker

Dave,

I miss you a ton. I think of you often & reflect on all those late night conversations we had. Whether it was us just shooting the breeze, or talking about the upcoming hunting season, it didn’t matter because it was always a good time. We cracked many jokes & shared many laughs.

You probably didn’t realize it at the time but you motivated me in ways other people couldn’t. You were one of the few to truly believe in me & what I would be capable of. I know you didn’t realize the extent your motivation meant to me. I wish I had shared this with you. Because of you, I made the decision to finally push myself out of my comfort zone & try to become a police officer. What I once thought was a dream became a reality 6 days after you went home to see our good Lord.

I didn’t ever get the chance to share this news with you, but I was thinking about you a lot today. Thank you for being such an inspiration to my life, my path, and my career. I will forever cherish the time we had on this earth & will forever hold you close in my heart friend. I can’t wait to see you again in Heaven my friend. Just know, you can rest in peace & be assured we have it from here brother.

Lord God of unfailing love, to those families in our beloved nation, the United States of America, who are suffering in the wake of the loss of a law enforcement family member, help us to provide support. Allow us to be their rock and fortress in a time of immense pain and uncertainty. Help us to keep them safe and nourished in their time of grief, suffering beside them as we move toward healing and reconciliation. Lord God, in Your compassionate mercy, hear my prayer. In Christ Jesus, Your beloved Son, and by His authority, I pray. Amen.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

RIP Dave, I will miss our patrols together out on Lake Cisco. You liked going out on the lake during the hot days and made quick work of guilting me into going out on the lake with you, just to watch me sweat. You even had a thermos full of "mud" on those hot days in the boat. I also enjoyed our plotting and scheming where we were going to fish when we could come out to the lake, off duty.

You made us all laugh at your joking personality, funny meems, and crazy texts, but you had the knack to turn on the professionalism in a heart beat and getting to work when work needed doing.

You are, and forever will be deeply missed by myself and all of your partners still here at the Cisco Police Department. It was a true honor and a privilege to get to know and work with you during that time. I hope you can see the earlier reflection from the family in Nebraska that you told me about over mud at the Flying J. They haven't forgotten you either.

Although our daily partnership may have ended abruptly, you will NEVER be forgotten. RIP 491!

To a great and crazy friend David. I remember when I first met you in Dallas county area. I remembered you had me climb up a tree to get an injured Hawk out of the tree. I climbed up the tree and a branch broke. Myself and the Hawk came down out of the tree and the fight was on. I yelled for you and you were in the street laughing . The other time we out hunting in Brownwood and got your truck stuck in the mud, you told me to get out and push. I’m will truly miss you brother. Love you, and My God have mercy on your soul.

Dave you were a great guy to work with and offered a lot of knowledge. We'd always crack up whenever you'd bring one in to me to book in at the jail. You brought me so many DWIs I gave you a nickname. I called you the Vampire. Your sense of humor always made a bad shift better. You will never be forgotten. Rest easy brother.

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."
