And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

The empty feeling found in the heart of every officer after one of our own is taken is too difficult to explain in mere words to those who have not shared the badge. God bless Deputy Durm's family, friends and co-workers with healing. We may never understand why this happened, but we know he served with great integrity, pride and honor for 38 years. I'm saddened to hear of your passing after 38 years of service to your department and to the people of Marion County. Since your wife and son are both also members of the Marion County Sheriff's Department, I guess we can say that law enforcement is your family business.
