Reflections for Corrections Officer Lawrence Christopher Prather

Correctional Officer Prather, it has been 1 year since you were taken from us. New Hampshire law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your 6 years of corrections service.

Lord God of unfailing love, to those families in our beloved nation who are suffering in the wake of the loss of a law enforcement family member, help us to provide support. Allow us to be their rock and fortress in a time of immense pain and uncertainty. Help us to keep them safe and nourished in their time of grief, suffering beside them as we move toward healing and reconciliation. Lord God, in Your compassionate mercy, hear my prayer. In Christ Jesus, Your beloved Son, I pray. Amen.

A corrections officer should be remembered not by how he died but by how he lived! A great man has secured a safe path for the rest of us to follow. You went above and beyond serving alone in the Unit. When no one wants to work, the agency can't recruit, and they have to bring in the NH National Guard to assume support duties so the trained uniformed officers can supervise inmates, you and the others still come in, work extra hours, and understaffed, and this is the consequence.

Thank you for your law enforcement service, to your family, and to the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. Our State and country are a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

Heavenly Father, I pray for the families of all America’s Peace Officers who have been killed in the Line-of-Duty and I thank you for their sacrifices. Bless the lives of their families so they might find healing. Help their law enforcement departments and agencies support their families. Even though their deaths might have been senseless, make something good come out of these situations so that their departments, agencies and communities, counties, states or nation, the United States of America, in which they lived and worked, might be stronger because of their lives and their deaths. In Christ Jesus’ mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

LP was legitimately larger than life and humble as pie! He once told me that words have meaning, and actions have consequences, a phrase I still hear echoing in my head today. He will be missed, and I know he is watching over all of us each day. There are very few true protectors in this world, and he was one that was always looking out for everyone.
