Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Josh Owen

Deputy Sheriff Owen,
On today, the 1st anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the MNARNG in Bosnia and Iraq. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Lord God of unfailing love, to those families in our beloved nation, the United States of America, who are suffering in the wake of the loss of a law enforcement family member, help us to provide support. Allow us to be their rock and fortress in a time of immense pain and uncertainty. Help us to keep them safe and nourished in their time of grief, suffering beside them as we move toward healing and reconciliation. Lord God, in Your compassionate mercy, hear my prayer. In Christ Jesus, Your beloved Son, and by His authority, I pray. Amen.

Every law enforcement death is tragic but some hit harder than others. Maybe it's Josh's service as a soldier, or his years of service as a deputy or his professional and athletic appearance. Maybe its the picture with his K-9 or the award he got, clear indicators that he was a cop's cop. Maybe its the fact he followed in his father's career footsteps. Maybe its we've lost another good man.

To the family and co-workers of Deputy Josh Owen, please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of a good cop. May you be consoled knowing that Josh served his nation and community with honor.

And to Josh's father, stay strong knowing the Blue Brotherhood is behind you. You are not in this alone. Josh will not be forgotten.

Stay safe Blue.

I wish I had never heard of Josh Owen.

Josh Owen sounds like a great guy. I wish I could have met him. He would have been a wonderful colleague, friend, or neighbor.

But I wish I had never heard of Josh Owen.

Never hearing his name would mean that Rylan still had his dad, Shannon still had her husband, and Josh's family, department, and community still had him in their lives.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.
