Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective Sergeant Mason Griffith

My daughter’s college (Culver Stockton in Canton, MO) held a memorial walk for fallen officers today. You were one of the unfortunate soles.
You will not be forgotten. I pray for you, even though you are not physically here on this earth. And I pray for your family.
I stopped in Hermann to visit your memorial, and take a moment to reflect on how everything can stop or be taken in the blink of an eye. Life is precious. I didn’t know you, but have heard wonderful memories of you. Rest now brother. We have the watch now.

Spent some time at your Casey's memorial in Hermann today as last stop before I left town. Had a great weekend in the town you loved and served. The blue line flag was flying as well I've ever seen one.

Lord God of unfailing love, to those families in our beloved nation, the United States of America, who are suffering in the wake of the loss of a law enforcement family member, help us to provide support. Allow us to be their rock and fortress in a time of immense pain and uncertainty. Help us to keep them safe and nourished in their time of grief, suffering beside them as we move toward healing and reconciliation. Lord God, in Your compassionate mercy, hear my prayer. In Christ Jesus, Your beloved Son, and by His authority, I pray. Amen.

„Proszę przyjmijcie wyrazy najszczerszego
współczucia i żalu.
Wiem że nikt i nic nie wypełni już tej luki
w Waszych sercach,
lecz pamiętajcie że nie umiera ten
kto trwa w pamięci bliskich.
Przeznaczenie odebrało Cię
zbyt szybko rodzinie i przyjaciołom,
ale nigdy nie odbierze Cię
naszej pamięci i naszym sercom.”

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

"Somebody killed a policeman today, and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court, with counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids and spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too, just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast, to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today, it happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors, a cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street, and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all, and a part of America died."

I live an hour and a half from the community that Sergeant Griffith protected and I remember hearing the news that an there was officer down in Herman almost immediately. I kept up with the news and was horrified when I heard Sergeant Griffith had passed on from this world. Your bravery will never be forgotten. Rest easy Sergeant.
