Reflections for Patrolman James Cahill

As I sit below the large plaque adorned with Po Cahill name alongside the many others that have fallen in the performance of their line of duty here in the Hall Of Heroes, I say a prayer for every name to Jesus who has risen on this day. May God continue to bless each one of the fallen and their families. May God reassure them all that we will all meet again in this everlasting light.

Patrolman Cahill, today marks the 154th anniversary of your murder. It is the pioneers like you that give inspiration to descending generations of law enforcement officers. You gave your life in pursuit of what was right and are a hero, not for your sacrifice, but for your efforts especially in such a rough and tumble time in our nation’s history.

God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.

According to the NYPD Museum Website, you are the first officer to die in the line of duty on record. It is an honor to be the first to leave a reflection in your memory. May the memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice remain forever. AC
