An infuriating event to say the least. If your murderer doesn't face true justice in this life, then may he face it in the next.

Brother, so long as your family keeps you in their hearts and minds, you will never be truly gone, but what a horrible thing that your unborn child will not have any memories though he or she will grow up knowing what a hero Dad was.

God Bless you, Deputy Calhoun and may you forever Rest in Peace.

Ofc. Calhoun, Badge 6097, may you rest in peace. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. May the Heavenly father bring peace to your wife and children, parents and in-laws and fellow officers in Blue throughout the US. Please find comfort in knowing that he is with our Lord and Savior. God bless him in his life and in his death and protect his family. Never forgotten. Maybe by some riddled with the deep wounds of hatred, but not by all who know what you did for us.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

The Roses Red

The roses red, bloom and grow
Mid soil and earth down below
Whose roots cling tight to Mother Earth
Yet mourners know the flower’s worth

Mournful glances and tear-stained eyes
Plagued by death—that great divide!
While rent and twain thy robe in grief
To mark a separation, however brief

The darkened clouds and shadows veil
We ponder oft of heaven and hell
A tender flower that bears our grief
Whose stem and pedal bring relief

A regal beauty that bears our pain
And drapes the casket, flow’r, and spray
Beset by thorns that pierce and bleed
Yet offering comfort in times of need

A field afar from where we are
In rows aligned, both near and far
To lift us up, they bloom and grow
Mid soil and earth down below
Whose roots cling tight to Mother Earth
Yet roses know the mourner’s worth

I live in Riverside County & I thank you for your service & bravery defending us. Sadly it seems to be happening too often these days. Another Deputy a few weeks ago. Losing two Palm Springs Officers a few years ago to an ambush. But believe me, we are crying too.

My heart goes out to the Riverside County Sheriff's Dept. I trained with the fine deputies of your agency at your range master school and was honored to do so. To lose two Deputies in the line of duty in two weeks is unfathomable, your hearts have to be broken. Please take care of the unseen damage inside of you and hang on to each other, your families, and the lord God almighty for strength. May God comfort you through this tragic loss.
