Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Isaiah Cordero

This hurts my heart

Chief of Police, William Grundy
Watervliet Arsenal Police Dept

December 31, 2022

I was watching the pursuit on CalTrans cameras and saw your fellow brothers and your brothers from several police departments around Riverside and San Bernardino counties and the California Highway Patrol in pursuit of the evil that tragically took your life. The fact that you graduated motor school 3 months before you were tragically murdered by a gangster who had no regard for human life shocked me, as you wanted to be a motor officer for a long time but the dream was cut off shortly. From deterring crime to being an example to the people of the Jurupa Valley and Riverside County, like what Sheriff Chad Bianco said, you exemplified the motto of the Sheriff's Office: "Service Above Self." You have made the citizens of Jurupa Valley and Riverside County proud in your 8 years and 6 months of service with the Sheriff's Office. Your actions exemplify why I want to be a law enforcement officer: To put others before themselves and to use the badge as a shield against evil. Rest Easy Deputy Cordero. Leave it to us, we will take it from here. God bless the Riverside County Sheriff's Office/Department and your friends and family

I am sad to learn of the passing of a Brother and Hero in Deputy Sheriff Isaiah Cordero. I believe our Heavenly Father has welcomed him home into his loving arms where he will now patrol the Golden Streets of Heaven. May the Lord deliver Blessings, Comfort and Peace to his family, friends and all Members of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, California.

ny love and thanks to Deputy Cordero and his family for the ultimate service in the community of Jurupa Valley. Although I currently live in Arizona. I lived in Jurupa Valley for 20 years and raised my family there. It will always hold a place in my heart especially with people like the ones who help this officer and to the whole sheriff's department for their dedication.

An officer killed by a perpetrator out on bail. There is nothing more disgraceful than a person giving someone bail that should have been in prison. This Deputy’s life was stolen from him.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

The silence, now, is deafening
where once his laughter fell.

The beat is empty of the one
who knew its streets so well.

The squad room has a vacancy
no one else can occupy.

And so we stand, salute and grieve
again we say 'good-bye'.

I have never forgotten a poem that I heard years ago at the funeral of another young officer.
He had been killed while driving his radio car to assist another officer in following a stolen car. I am unsure what the title is or who the author is and so I am unable to give credit to the author but it is still sad, important, and meaningful.
