Reflections for Police Officer Lloyd "Mike" Todd
Officer Todd, i'm sorry for what occured that day in 1998, because the men who took you and Shawn's lives were all cowards, and that they won't see the light of day again via their actions. It hurts to know that they didn't just kill you, but instead they partially took away your life, as they were cruel enough to damage you the way they did. But despite that, you were strong enough to prove that despite the odds, you still managed to outlive them. You truly were a man of strength and bravery, because you were brave enough to fight the odds during your time alive, and on top of that you were a US Coast Guard Veteran, which says alot about your strength. If that doesn't say anything about your strength, i dont know what does. However, the men who took away you and shawn's lives got caught, and they were all sentenced to life in prison. However, one of them was paroled and they were later murdered in retalliation for your deaths, which i think was deserved, but i really think the others should've gotten the death sentence while they still had the chance, because they should've been put in the ground much sooner. Also, i'm sure your son has grown up and knows about your legacy, and their is a chance he may be continuing your legacy from where it was left off, as your legacy isn't forgotten, and that the city of detroit has not forgotten about you or Shawn. Also, within your 5 years of being an officer, you surely made an impact with those 5 years, because i know that there are some people who met you and got to see what kind of person you were, because you were more than just a man. But as of now and today, may you rest in peace knowing your service as an officer and soldier is appreciated, and that you not only served your people in detroit, but your country aswell, which takes alot of courage and bravery to do. Also, your killers will receive karma and judgement once their time comes, as karma takes it's time for people to suffer first before reaching them. Rest Well Mr. Todd

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.
There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!
"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I never had the privilege of meeting you, but I've heard your story numerous times over the years. You are still remembered and talked about by members who worked at the Ninth Precinct over the years. They play the dispatch tape from that night for the Academy students to help them understand the seriousness of this profession.
Know that you are loved and appreciated by the members of this agency. Please watch over us brother.
