Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Marshall Samuel Ervin, Jr.

I did not expect this page to hit me as hard as it did, but seeing that he was forced to leave behind a wife and two children due to his willingness to serve this country crushed me. My dad is in the military and I am one of two kids, so my heart goes out to the family because I cannot imagine the pain and struggle y'all went through. However, God is constant and promises to walk beside us, so my prayer is that you will be able to feel his loving presence as you walk through this.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

I was one of the hundreds of officers that responded to your signal 63 (officer needs help). I'm so sorry we couldn't do more to help you guys. It's not fair and this has torn me up deeply even though I didn't know you guys too well.

You two will NEVER be forgotten in this county.

Deputy Sheriff Marshall Samuel Ervin Jr, my heart is broken for you and your family. This coward's act of murder on you and your partner has left 2 families in pieces. I am angry to keep reading of our Police being murdered as they do their jobs.
May God Bless your family now as they have to learn to live without you here on earth. My deepest condolences to the Cobb County Sheriff's Department as they grieve the loss of two of their own.
Rest in Peace, Brother. May Heaven help us all.
