Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Matthew Eugene Yates

Matthew…. My friend, my brother…. I had hoped to never ever have to write on this wall again for another member of my Blue Family beyond Suzanne… but God’s plans are not for us to know…

Too soon you have been taken from us, and we will never be the same. Your legacy as a Guardian of this community will never be forgotten, so long as there is breath in my lungs. I am proud to have been your brother, and I am honored to have shared this work with you. Your dad has been a role model to me my entire career, and I cry for him as much as for you. We love you, and we will miss you until we join you again….

God speed to you my dear friend. Rest now, your watch is done….

Clark County Sheriff’s Office

Every ‘Officer Down’ takes another small chunk out of our hearts. To the Yates family- your loss brings tears to all of our eyes and a prayer for God’s presence to envelope you. Deputy Yates’ fellow deputies and Department staff need the comfort and encouragement of every member of their community. You have served and helped watch over many members of our extended family and we honor you all. Rest in Peace brother.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family, and the Clark County Sheriff's Office. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!
