I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

Lord Jesus, as we watch our nation’s brave law enforcement officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the law enforcement officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” [Psalm 23:4 NLT]

“God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” [Matthew 5:9 NLT]

“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” [John 15:13 NLT]

“God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” [Matthew 5:4 NLT]

One of my daughters’ and her 3 young children live in Rochester and my youngest son is a firefighter in Brighton just outside of Rochester. In 1996 Detectives in Rochester helped us solve a homicide that occurred in Syracuse. This just breaks my heart. Police officers are vilified when in fact the exact opposite should be happening. God bless him and his family. He’s with the Lord now.

Tony Mazurkiewicz was a GOOD MAN. He was dedicated to peace! I know the GOOD he would have done in his community during his retirement, had he not been killed, has no bounds. I knew him to be faithful to God, generous, kind, responsible, & a loving husband. A father who raised two children of his own and two step children, as if they were his own, to be as honest, respectful, responsible, and loving as he was. He was so close to retirement; looking forward to spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was gracious & made the most delicious spaghetti! So many good memories of Tony & not a single memory that isn't good. Of how many people can you say that you have only good memories? The violent, murderous death of this GOOD MAN, after dedicating his life to the welfare of others, leaves me stunned; wondering how could this have happened to this man, this good, loving family, or your community. Your city should have cherished who he was and that he stood up for you! I cannot believe (as I probably should) that this tragedy was GOD'S will. I must believe that Tony, as that very rare GOOD man, was standing in the way of great EVIL and that GOD, sheds tears with us and for us. I offer prayers that God will give us peace, help us to live on without hate and revenge in our hearts. These prayers are offered for his wife, his four children, grandchildren his, brother & sister in law, nieces & nephews, many friends & colleagues. My sympathies & prayers, are also offered for / to the citizens of Rochester, who don't even know what they've lost! Tony was not just another Cop! There are VERY FEW genuinely GOOD PEOPLE willing to face the devil every day, risking their very lives to protect others and fight for the rights of people they don't know personally to live their lives in peace. I also pray for justice. Though, I do realize that accountability is impossible, for how many criminals must we take away to balance the scale for the loss of one GOOD MAN dedicated to protecting the innocent?
