The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Sheriff Dominique Calata and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Calata, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on.  Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be.  In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Deputy Calata is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family, and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Brother,

I am truly at a loss for words, we spent 7th thru 12th grade together, served at the same time. Our community, State, and the world have truly lost someone special, a warrior spirit with a heart of gold. I will see you on the other side.

This is tragic and I'm heart broken for his wife and child. At a time when support for law enforcement is at an all time low, Deputy Calata selflessly answered the call to protect and serve his fellow man. Rest in peace, Deputy Calata.

Devastating, and truly heartbreaking to hear of the murder of this outstanding young police officer who protected the flock in the military and as a Deputy Sheriff. May God Bless Deputy Sheriff Calata and please watch over his grieving wife, daughter and family. He gave his life fighting evil. Thank-you Sir! Gone but NEVER forgotten.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln
