Another one of New York's Finest has left us all too soon. he was taken from us just yesterday. He was in just over a year with the NYPD lost his life serving the great city of New York. His name will be on the state and national monuments as of next year. There have been many New York City Police Officers who have lost their lives over the years. Another name has been added to the list of fallen New York City Police Officers. My thoughts and prayers are with the City of New York, the New York City Police Department and the entire Rivera Family at this time. They mourn the loss of one brave officer who responded to a domestic dispute then lost his life doing so.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Police Officer Jason Rivera and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Rivera, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Rivera is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family, and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I served in the 32nd Precinct from 2017-2021. I had my best and worst times there, but learning of Officer Rivera’s death was my worst time of all as a 32 patrolman. I never met P.O. Rivera personally, but all the indications from my former colleagues before and after this tragedy were that he was just the right man for The Job. Fair winds and following seas, brother, and eternal peace to your surviving loved ones.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the New York City Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!
