Reflections for Police Officer Wayne "Butch" Nowell, Jr.

Dear Dad,
There was many times throughout life I told you thank you, but it doesn't feel like enough. Thank you for adopting me at birth and trying with all your human power to love me for 34 years, i say that because no matter where you are i carry all of our memories and appreciate every one. I found that pic of you singing karaoke in your cutt off blue jeans shorts from like 1987 lol I told you I would find it and you looked like you were rocking it. Life has a way of showing you things and like i used to always tell u as a youngster.... there is no book to make a parent perfect, you were all I had and the boys and i miss you terribly. Mah'Licah wants to see your pictures more frequently and talks about being the Sherriff one day like his pawpaw. We love you dad/ Pawpaw

Butch I visited with Lucy recently and will be beside her on June 12, 2022 to honor you and your service in Meridian.

I think of you and your bold "John Wayne" persona often. The mold was truly broken with you :)

Rest in Peace Brother, we love and miss you.

Butch was one of my original Field Training Officers when I began my law enforcement career. He was a good man, and had a kind heart. My wife and I still speak kindly of him and the love he showed towards our family. He gave so much for this profession and my heart is heavy hearing that he passed. God Bless you Butch Nowell. You will be missed.

Butch where do I start bro ? It seems like yesterday you took me under your wing and taught me to be the Officer I am today. You were a constant, even if everyone else was a drift in, drift out of my life, you were always there. It also seems like I just hugged your neck last night after work as ya drove thru going home. I am going to miss our talks, our vents, and our laughs we shared about the good ole days. But most of all I am going to miss you brother. Just know I loved you like my father, and will see you later bro. Keep my seat at the table in Valhalla open and love you brother.

Officer Nowell, …, for many years, you dedicated your life to protecting others that they may be safe. It took a small virus to take your life. Our Lord, who sees all and knows all, will reward you abundantly for your courage, dedication and selfless service. May God immerse you and your loved ones in His Divine Mercy. Rest in peace, good and faithful servant.

Most merciful God, You hold each of us dear to Your heart. Hold all those law enforcement officers and their families, who are afflicted or affected by the COVID-19 Virus, in Your loving arms and tenderly draw them into Your life, together with all others who are living with the COVID-19 Virus. Assure them that they are not alone, and give them courage and faith for all that is to come. Strengthen those who care for them and treat them, and guide those who do research. Forgive those who have judged harshly, and enlighten those who live in prejudice or fear. Nourish those who have lost sight of You, and heal the spirits of those who are broken. We pray this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, who suffered and died, and then rose from the dead to lead us into new life, now and forever. In Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Meridian Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.
