Scherr,
You were simply an expert in the field. I appreciate every minute you spent at CCA's police academy and also at Aurora PD's academy instructing me. You took the time to explain things in such detail. I loved watching your brain work as you solved a problem. Your humor is what will stick with me most. Also, you hold the record for number of times any single person has OC sprayed me, at 7 total over the years! And you're the only person to ever Tase me. The world lost a good man in you. Until we see eachother again...

I first met Eric Scherr when he was one of my training instructors in the Academy in 2011. He made his way out to the road with me then promoted to a supervisor. I worked under him for a couple years both as a road supervisor and as a Police Area Representative Sergeant. Sgt Scherr was one of the best bosses I've ever had, not just because of the high respect he gave, not just because of his personal skills, not just because of his selflessness, but because of his heart and love for those around him. Eric Scherr went the extra mile for his fellow officers, friends, and family.

On the day my son was born Sgt. Scherr called to check on us and put an email out to the department to congratulate us. Over the next days he drove out of city to come say hi and hold our new baby. I will never forget the happiness on his face just to be with us and hold our little one at that moment.

I will let my son know when he is old enough that he was held by a truly honorable, respectable and hero with admirable strength when he was born - That he was once held by an Angel of God. As my son grew into his toddler years my kiddo would always smile when he came into contact with Eric Scherr. He loved uncle Scherr.

Eric Scherr is a person the world can and should look up to. May God welcome him to heaven and comfort his family always.

You will be missed.

We have the watch from here....

Most merciful God, You hold each of us dear to Your heart. Hold all those law enforcement officers and their families, who are afflicted or affected by the COVID-19 Virus, in Your loving arms and tenderly draw them into Your life, together with all others who are living with the COVID-19 Virus. Assure them that they are not alone, and give them courage and faith for all that is to come. Strengthen those who care for them and treat them, and guide those who do research. Forgive those who have judged harshly, and enlighten those who live in prejudice or fear. Nourish those who have lost sight of You, and heal the spirits of those who are broken. We pray this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, who suffered and died, and then rose from the dead to lead us into new life, now and forever. In Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen.

“Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God.” [Matthew 5:9]

“And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

Eric, it was an honor to serve with you through all the different assignments over the years. We had some good laughs both on and off duty. You constantly challenged and inspired me to be a better man. Thank you for your fellowship. The trips with the fellas will not be the same without you. I look forward to seeing you again when I get called home. May God bless you and your family until we meet again.

Eric was a helluva guy, great cop, supervisor and most important, family man and Christian. Though retired, I enjoyed my visits with him when I came out to the range. You are missed so much by all.

My brother Eric, we tested for Aurora together, sat beside each other in the Academy, became great friends, and worked the streets together. Between our constant competition in Firearms Training, then later becoming Instructors was one of my fondest memories. Watching your family grow, having you and your family at my house, and watching you become a leader. I miss you now, and will miss you forever. I will watch out for your family as well, I am my Brother's Keeper, as promised. Rest easy, we have the watch. Thank you for being there for me.
