Johnny, I had not worked with you., but I remember you from instructing your academy class and a fill-in shift on patrol. I remember laughing at the briefing/roll call banter on your squad.

Yours is the most difficult investigation I have worked. Your last moments were beyond horrific. I hate what you went through.

Your arrest was completed and the animal who killed you was handcuffed with your cuffs to be booked. Your assignment was completed.

Deputy Ruiz S2212, your service and sacrifice are immeasurable. You live on through your squad, academy partners, and brothers/sisters in policing. Thank you.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln
