Eddie,

I wrote the following in text message to your phone, hoping the Lord would allow you to see it:

Eddie, Im so sorry my brother. The news of your passing has devastated me and everyone. I pray for your family and hope they will find comfort in knowing that you are in a better place now. I will never forget how you and I were friends in our class before meeting anyone else. We did our hire paperwork together that 22nd of March in 1996. You made those long days and months in the academy fun. I don’t think I could have done it without you. You and I busted our tails on Afternoons and then midnights. I knew I could always count on you being there for me. I know we didn’t remain that close as our careers progressed but we always had that bond when we saw each other. I will miss you dearly and I will pray for your wife and daughter and that they may know you were respected and a wonderful person. So long my friend and thank you for everything. Your classmate, friend and colleague- Jorge Garcia.

A police officer should be remembered not by how he died but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Miami Beach Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!
