My late father mourned for Officer Burnett for many years. Officer Burnett worked night shift, and befriended my dad as he was a boy delivering the products of his father's bakery to restaurants and homes during the very early morning. Dad said Officer Burnett always had a kind word for him, even just in passing, so Dad was devastated to learn about the shooting death as he was on his delivery route one morning.
Dad told me about this when I made my decision as a young woman to enter law enforcement, expressing his fear that I could meet a similar end, but he always supported my career choice. He did ask me to be aware of how a smile and kind word from a n officer to a lonely kid could make a day better. I have tried to do so in Officer Burnett's memory.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 68th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

Patrolman Burnett,

What more could have been asked of you? To be killed while attempting to protect the life of another is the most admirable act in civilizied society.

You are not forgotten.

Rest in peace, sir.
