I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

A Hero's Welcome...by: Robert Longley

Time to come home dear brother
Your tour of duty through
You've given as much as anyone
Could be expected to do

Just a Few steps further
The smoke will start to clear
Others here will guide you
You have no need to fear.

You have not failed your brothers
You clearly gave it all
And through your selfless actions
Others will hear the call.

So take your place of honor
Among those who have gone before
And know you will be remembered
For now and evermore

Our hearts and prayers are with family Blood and Blue!

Sergeant Vaca: you were on duty on Memorial Day when you lost your life that day. You served the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department with pride and with honor. You will never be forgotten at all. Next May, your name will be inscribed on both the Police Memorials for the United States and for the State of California along with other officers who have died in the line of duty this past year. You will not be forgotten at all.

Sergeant Vaca, 17 years served as a public servant through Law Enforcement. Killed while fulfilling what God had called him to do. May the Holy Spirit fill the void in the lives of his family, close work partners and the many friends that held him dear. Hearts are grieved and souls are in despair but the Holy Spirit, the comforter is doing His eternal work of bringing Comfort.
